Region & Tile Statistics Filter Now Available

The archive can now be searched and filtered by a specific region or tile set having no clouds.

Searching by scene geography and scene statistics has long been available at this site.  Significantly, today we deploy functionality that fulfills one of the prime directives of this project.  Recall one of our goals,

To search for satellite data covering a given point or region of interest, while having a specified level of quality such as the absence of clouds at that point or area.  For example, show me MODIS radiance data between 2004 and 2006 without cloud cover over Geraldton.

This is now achievable by selecting from the search summary "Filter by aggregate scene or region statistics" after you've selected your geographical region of interest, then navigating to the "Region Statistics Filter".

It's a small check-box but causes a fundamental change in the way the archive metadata is searched.  Any geographical region previously specified would now search using individually gridded tile border and metadata, and not just the whole scene boundaries and metadata.

Remember that with each ingested scene gridded to 20km tiles, we are trending towards 10^9 tiles (which we anticipate passing) so use this search feature wisely on small regions because it can't possibly return sub-second results like whole scene searching.

Note that you can flexibly apply a scene filter and region/tile filter simultaneously.
